Welcome to Grade 1 at Heritage International School

Dear Parents of Grade 1A and Grade 1B,

These past two days have been so wonderful getting to know your children. We can’t wait to see everyone again next week. Please find below our personal introductory letters and be sure to access both Edmodo and e-corner frequently as you will be able to find important information about your child’s class and see photos. Have a great weekend!

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,

Welcome to a new year at Heritage International School! My name is Amanda Perris and I will be teaching Grade 1A this year. This is my third year at Heritage International School, and I am eagerly anticipating a year that promises to be exciting, creative and challenging.
I spent my childhood in Alberta, Canada with my parents and one sister until I later moved to British Columbia, Canada to study at Thompson Rivers University. I have since spent time in different parts of western Canada improving my skills personally and professionally. Before arriving in Egypt, I traveled to many different parts of the world where I enjoyed watching the development of learning in other cultures. My goal as a teacher is to pass on the joy of learning to my students and give them the tools and skills needed to succeed.
Since I have been working at Heritage International School I have had the opportunity to get to know many of the students on a one-on-one basis. Due to this, I have created multiple relationships throughout the student body. As your child’s teacher, I will supply them with creative, engaging, inquiry-based lessons that stimulate their desire to learn. I will also provide them with a safe, positive and encouraging learning environment that will help to grow their passion for learning and discovery. I would like to encourage parents to become active members of our classroom community by volunteering, helping your child with homework and most importantly, listening to them read every night. By working together, we will help ensure your child’s success.
I would also like to emphasize the importance of communication and partnership. This year we will be having a class website on Edmodo! This will allow us to have more consistent communication about our activities throughout the year. More information will be provided in an information sheet and during our presentation. In addition, we will continue to update e-corner and send home a weekly newsletter. Most importantly, if you would like to discuss any concerns or goals you may have for your child, please do not hesitate to contact me through email. My door is always open.
I am looking forward to a wonderful and exciting year in grade one and cannot wait to get started!

Dear Parents,

Hello! My name is Ms. Kristy and I am the new Grade 1B teacher. I am excited to begin my new teaching journey in Egypt, along with my husband and three children, and I am certain this is going to be a spectacular year.

I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography, as well as a Bachelor of Education degree from Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario. I received my teacher training and certification in Ontario, specializing in the primary and junior divisions, and I am currently certified to teach in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. I have eleven years of teaching experience and have, for the past nine years, lived and worked in northern Saskatchewan for the Northern Lights School Division. Over the past nine years, I have worked as a Grade 1 teacher, a Literacy Catalyst teacher, and as a Grade 9 and Grade 10 English teacher. Prior to working for the Northern Lights School Division, I taught for almost four years in Shanghai, China, teaching English as a Second Language to Kindergarten students using the International Baccalaureate (IBO) curriculum. During my time in China, I also served as the school’s English Coordinator.

I have extensive and innovative teacher training specializing in literacy education and have designed and implemented many school, community, and family literacy programs focusing on Early Years literacy. As a Literacy Catalyst Teacher for Kindergarten to Grade 9, I have coached, collaborated, and provided support in classrooms to assist with differentiated instruction, guided reading, oral language acquisition, writing, assessment, and data entry. As a Grade 9 and Grade 10 English teacher, I have designed and implemented differentiated instruction and cooperative learning strategies in a predominately First Nations culture. I have executed a ‘Following Their Voices’ initiative designed to raise the educational achievement and participation of Saskatchewan’s First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students. I have also coached level one and two competitive cheerleading for the past five years in the tiny, mini, youth, and junior divisions.

I am absolutely thrilled to become a part of the professional teaching team for Heritage International School and I look forward to meeting you all and exploring Egypt.
