Welcome to Senior Kindergarten Homepage

SK E Corner       week of 3rd – 7th January 2019

February is ‘I Love To Read’ month throughout the school. The KG classes will be doing lots of extra activities related to books and reading. During this month, if any parent would like to come to school to read a story to the class, please let the teacher know.

Literacy:

We will be working on the vowels this term. It is essential to understand how the vowels work if we are to become fluent readers. Each vowel has a long sound which sounds like its upper case, and a short sound which is the lower case sound.

This week, we will finish up with the vowel ‘o’ by writing a list of words with the short ‘o’ sound and another list of words with the long’o’ sound.

New letter blend: ‘ou’, like in house and pound

Sight words:   our  out  brown  do

‘I Love To read’ activities:  each child will draw themselves reading their favourite book for a class display.

Each child will start work on their own “all About Me’ book.

Math:

Number concepts 0-20

  • recognize the numbers 0-20
  • say them in order getting bigger and getting smaller
  • count on and back from any number
  • say the number between any 2 numbers
  • draw circles to represent any given number
  • skip counting.

‘Number of the Week’: 14

We will continue working on addition in our workbooks. We will start to work on subtraction.

Science: Term 2: Trees

We will be talking and writing about how we can help trees to grow.

Social Studies: Term 2: The People Around Me

We will talk and write about the work various people do at school.

We will talk and write about the work that our dad does.

Dear Parents,

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Heritage International School, or, if your child is returning, then welcome back. We are very much looking forward to getting to know you over the course of the year and to working with your children. Lets make it a positive and fruitful year for everyone.

The Kindergarten teachers this year are Miss Molly Adams in SKA and Miss Julia McEvoy in SKB. We can be reached at the following email addresses:

madams@heritageinternationalschool.com

jmcevoy@heritageinternationalschool.com

Each child will have a student planner in their bag at all times for communication from home and you can also simply call the school reception if you wish to meet with us.

Please make special note of the following:

  • – Your child will need healthy food and plenty of water every day.
  • – The school canteen is available to SK students. Coupons must be bought in advance from the cafeteria.
  • – Please provide your child with a complete change of clothes (not necessarily school uniform). In the event that the spare clothes are used, please return a new set the following day.
  • – Please provide your child with a painting overall (which will remain in class all year) as soon as possible.
  • – Please provide your child with 2 large packs of tissues for use in the classroom.
  • – Classroom supplies are provided by the school so please do not let your child bring his/her own pencil case to class as this causes disputes.
  • – Toys from home are not allowed at school unless specifically requested.
  • – Footballs are not permitted as they are extremely heavy and can hurt children. Soft balls for use in the garden are fine.
  • – If your child’s travel arrangements change on any given day, please contact the reception in the morning to let them know

We will update the SK “e corner” every Sunday so that you can see exactly what we are planning to cover in class on a weekly basis. Look at www.heritageinternationalschool.com and follow the link to SK in the elementary e corner.

This week we will be spending time getting to know each other and doing assessments.

Best regards,

Miss Molly and Miss Julia
