SK E Corner week of 2nd-6th December 2018

Mon 3rd + Tue 4th: Photos

Thurs 6th: Triad Conferences

Literacy:

We have done the whole alphabet now! We will be reviewing all the sounds and the names of the letters. We will be testing the children on their knowledge of the alphabet.

Sight words:   we will not be introducing any new sight words until Term 2. Please continue to practice reading all the sight words we have done so far with your child at home. We will be testing the children on their ability to read the sight words in class.

We will be sorting out jumbled up sentences and rewriting them correctly.

Each child has a writing journal. We have started to write a sentence in it each week. Most of the words we are using are the sight words we have posted in our classrooms. Any additional words are written phonetically. We are concentrating on starting with a capital letter, leaving spaces between the words and finishing up with a full stop.

We will be testing the children on their ability to write consonant-vowel-consonant words.

We will be testing the children on their knowledge of the blends we have done in Term 1. The blends are: ee  oo  ch  sh  th  wh  ng.

Math:

Number concepts 0-20

  • recognize the numbers 0-20
  • say them in order getting bigger and getting smaller
  • count on and back from any number
  • say the number between any 2 numbers
  • draw circles to represent any given number
  • skip counting.

‘Number of the Week’: 9.

We have covered the numbers to 20 in our workbooks. We will continue to work on all the number concepts listed above for these numbers.

We will be testing the children on all of the term 1 math concepts.

We will be doing some fun Christmas related math activities.

Science: Term 1: Colours

We will take a look at some paintings by Pablo Picasso. We will discuss how ‘wonky’ they are, but that we can understand what the paintings are depicting. Each child will make a portrait in this style!

Social Studies: Term 1: All About Me

We will talk about responsibilities we have at home. Things like tidying up our toys when we finish playing or getting dressed by ourselves. Each child will write about one responsibility they have at home.
